Rich History Still Alive Today

In the 1860's, Henry Wickenburg came to the area in search of gold. He was rewarded with the discovery of Vulture Mine, where over $30 million in gold was found. There are still relics around the area that stand as a tribute to these early adventurers, as well as various properties throughout the town that are considered historical and have been included in the National Register of Historic Places. This historic past is commemorated each ppring with the Gold Rush Festival and Parade.

Educational Opportunities

Public school students in Wickenburg belong to the Wickenburg Unified School District #9, which serves over 1,500 students in four outstanding schools—Wickenburg Elementary, Festival Foothills Elementary, Vulture Peak Middle, and Wickenburg High.

The district is also home to the Wickenburg Digital Learning Program, as well as other unique programs like the Move On When Ready program, which allows students to graduate with a Grand Canyon Diploma in as little as two years. Students have opportunities to study business, engineering, construction, and culinary arts, as well as many more technical and career programs at the WESTMEC Education Center. Private school education is available at Wickenburg Christian Academy.
