Fountain Hills was named after the towering man-made fountain in the center of town, and was incorporated in 1989. Each day, once per hour, the famous fountain spews water to a height of 562 feet. The town of Fountain Hills has a total area of 18.2 square miles. To the east of the town is the Verde River, a tributary to the Salt River. Inside the town there are many washes that run through Fountain Hills into the Verde River. Some of these washes include the Ashbrook, Balboa, Legend, and Colony Washes.

Many exquisite homes can be found in Fountain Hills, each with outstanding views.  Fountain Hills is in Maricopa County and neighbors the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, and Scottsdale, Arizona. An Architectural Wonder

Fountain Hills, as one of the most recently incorporated towns in Arizona, has had the opportunity to become the site of some incredible modern architectural feats. The town is named after its most famous accomplishment, the fountain that can shoot water 560 feet in the air. The fountain, at the time of its construction in 1970, was the tallest in the world, and to this day still ranks as fourth tallest fountain.
